Amazing 19th Century Hand-Drawn Fonts

Posted on April 15, 2013Sanborn-map-0

Fellow blogger Christian Annyas recently uncovered a treasure trove of typography from the public archives of the Sanborn Map Company. You can read his post here to find out more about Sanborn's history. As you can see the craftsmanship here is off the charts. These are the late 1800's, long before Helvetica was a glimmer in Max Miedinger's eye. There were no "fonts" back then. All you had was your imagination and a steady hand. Anyone looking for a little typographical inspiration will enjoy this extensive list of Sanborn's legendary map covers. Many thanks to Christian for sharing them!
