40 Amazing Masterpieces Made From Metrocards
Posted on August 07, 2012
We love to feature local artists on the blog and today is no exception. We have been following the work of one particular New Yorker with great interest. Nina Boesch has been a New York City resident since 2001, when she emigrated from Germany in search of inspiration. She found tons of it in hyper-charged aesthetic of her surroundings, but was far too pressed for cash to purchase art supplies. She turned to her collection of old Metrocards as an ad-hoc medium to express herself.
It all began with a map of the United States that she made as a gift for her host family. They were so impressed by this piece that they encouraged her to create more, sparking an obsession that would churn out hundreds of amazing pieces. She started out with mundane, every day New York items, a cup of coffee here, a subway train there, before she started expanding her repertoire to landmark buildings and portraits of famous New Yorkers.
Her work has been so successful that she currently hosts a site called Metrocard Yourself where people can submit their photos for her to convert into metrocard artwork. This is just one of many projects that she is involved in and we encourage you to check out her official website if you would like to see more from this versatile, and very talented artist.
